"Not By Faith Alone" Presentation and Other Updates
Upcoming Virtual Conference and Recent Podcast Appearances
Hi all, a few quick updates on my other recent activities while I’m working on my next substative Substack post.
NINT Conference on Paul: “Not by Faith Alone”
First of all, I’m delighted to have been invited to present at the “New Insights into the New Testament” conference that’s happening Sept 21–22. I’ll be presenting, “Not by Faith Alone: Paul’s Gospel Wasn’t What You (Probably) Think,” which an early portion of one of my next books.
This is a virtual conference that is open to all, featuring accessible talks on the bleeding edge of Pauline scholarship from world-class and renowned scholars (and me), including opportunities for Q&A (moderated by Bart Ehrman) and discussions with the participating scholars. For those who are interested in the event, you can sign up here. Early bird rates run through August 24.
Podcast Episode on “Israel, Paul, and 90s Movie Quotes”
I really enjoyed this appearance on the GlossaHouse “ProveText” podcast with Michael Halcomb. We got deep into the weeds on this one and also got to banter about Dumb and Dumber and other media familiar to our age cohort.
If you’re not familiar with GlossaHouse, you should be. They’ve got some amazing resources that are affordably priced; we’ll be using some of their Greek curriculum with our children as they get older, for example. (Note: I was not paid or encouraged by Michael to say any of this; it’s just true.)
Biblical World Interview with Jodi Magness, Archaeologist Extraordinaire
As part of my recent addition to the OnScript Biblical World Podcast co-hosts, I got the chance to sit down with my former teacher, Jodi Magness, this time as the interviewer rather than interviewee, to talk about her new book, Jerusalem through the Ages: From Its Beginnings to the Crusades, a monumental work compiling and evaluating the best archaeological and historical research on Jerusalem over a roughly 3000 year period. Jodi is always a delight to listen to, and this episode is no exception.
Guest Appearance on That’ll Preach Podcast
Yet another podcast appearance to talk Paul and Israel and more. This time it’s on a podcast more directed toward modern concerns, discussing how my work might impact modern Christian understandings of Israel, the gospel, and more. Good conversation with Bryan Zhang, who podcasts from Tallahassee, FL, a place close to my own heart.
That’s all for now. Back soon with more.
